OVIDIUS UNIVERSITY OF CONSTANTA

IOAN POPIȘTEANU UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

AMERICAN CORNER CENTER

American Spaces operate internationally as partnerships between U.S. Embassies and local public or university libraries. The American Corner program, part of American Spaces, consists of a network of libraries affiliated with county or university centers. In Romania, the American Corners network was launched in 2005 with the opening of the first center in Timișoara. It quickly expanded to other cities, including Iași, Craiova, Bacău, Baia Mare, Constanța, Cluj, Târgu-Mureș, Bucharest, and Sibiu.

The primary mission of the American Corner is to promote understanding and collaboration between Romania and the United States by offering free access to relevant information about American culture and civilization. American Corners function as sections of partner libraries, providing the public with book collections across various fields, audiovisual materials, and a range of cultural programs.

The center focuses on direct interaction with the public and the organization of diverse cultural activities. Established in May, 2006 through a partnership between the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest and Ovidius University of Constanța, American Corner Constanța serves as the American cultural center for the public in Constanța County.

Opening Hours:Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.

Activities take place in two rooms located in Campus Building A: the American Corner and the American Corner Multimedia Room (Room 222).
